What is Marble Inlay Work?
“Marble Inlay work” is one of the most attractive art that done from marble. Same type of that adorns the Taj Mahal and other Mughal monuments. It is a closely protected traditional art and only a few expert exponents are available today. The delicate process involves cutting and engraving marble shapes manually. To start with, a predefined pattern e.g., floral design or geometrical design is engraved on the marble slab. Small pieces of marble of different shades are cut delicately to fit in these grooves precisely. These small pieces are then slipped in the grooves. Apart from marble, many other materials can also be used.
History of Inlay Art:
Inlay work on delicate precious stone began in the workshops of Florence in Italy around the end of the 16th century. This was known as PIETRA DURA.(Pietra= Stone, Dura= Hard) The Italians had created a classic artistic form and held a monopoly over it. From 1630 onwards pietra dura appeared on moveable, small objects as decorative panels, with bird and flower motifs, suitable for cabinet fronts and table tops. Some of these soon reached the Mughals in the form of presents. Of all the Mughal Emperors, Shah Jahan was the greatest patron of architecture in India. For him no amount of money or time was too much to create enduring, everlasting architectural beauty and through it be remembered always. It is in his buildings that one feels most compelled to make the connection between Mughal art and pietra dura. The Taj Mahal, the cenotaphs of the Emperor and his wife, the main floor and the surrounding marble railings bear very close resemblances to the pietra dura form.
We exclusively ship through renowned courier partners such as DHL and FedEx, with an estimated delivery time of approximately 10 days to your doorstep. In cases where delivery is not possible through these courier partners, we will use India Post as an alternative option. Please note that we cannot ship to PO Box addresses. For large items, we deliver via sea cargo to the nearest seaport, which takes 6 to 8 weeks for delivery. Rest assured that we take proper measures to ensure the safe packing of your items, and all parcels are fully insured against any risks. However, please be aware that we cannot be held responsible for any delays in Customs clearance. Any additional taxes and duties required by Customs must be paid by the customer in accordance with their respective country's norms
Packaging & Delivery
By Air: Articles up to 48 inches in diameter are packaged in corrugated and PVC boxes with air bubble and foam sheet for optimal protection during shipping. These items are dispatched through renowned courier partners such as DHL and FedEx, with an estimated delivery time of approximately 10 days to your doorstep.
By Sea: For articles larger than 48 inches in diameter, we utilize wood wool and rope to secure the item into a single piece. It is then covered in jute cloth and placed inside a wooden box for safekeeping. Shipping for articles larger than 48 inches is done through sea cargo, which takes approximately 6 to 8 weeks for delivery to the nearest seaport specified by the buyer at the time of purchase. The buyer must arrange for door delivery from the nearest seaport to their doorstep or they can request door delivery at an additional cost. For further information on door delivery charges, please email us with your complete delivery address and nearest seaport.
Insuracne: All items dispatched from our workshop are fully insured to cover any potential damage that may occur during transit.
We want you to be completely satisfied with your purchase. If for any reason you are not satisfied with your order, we accept returns within 7 days after delivery. Please note that you will be responsible for paying the return shipping cost.
If you cancel your order before we dispatch it, we will provide a full refund. All refunds will be initiated through a Bank NEFT/RTGS/PayPal transfer, which will take 5-10 working days to process.
If your purchased product arrives broken or damaged, you have the option to receive another product or a full refund from the insurance company. To process the insurance claim faster, we request that you follow these steps:
Take photos of the packaging if it arrived with external damage. Open the parcel within 3 days of delivery.
If you receive the item in broken condition, email Artefactindia and the shipping company (Fedex or DHL) about the damage with photographs. Provide additional details to the insurance company upon request. As soon as the claim is settled by the insurance company, we will inform you by email.
Please note that no claims will be entertained once the 3-day period for opening the parcel has passed.
